Another year has passed and more work has been done reviewing the Dumb Waiters archives of cassette tapes known as The Keele Tapes. Remaining Dumb Waiters, Jim and Vic have been collaborating by pooling their old tape collections online to produce new compilation of those brief productive years at Keele University.
Since the loss of the Dumb Waiters legendry frontman, Brian in 2021 two collection have been released on the band’s SoundCloud page and are available free to stream.
Working on a third album started this summer that mark another anniversary of the much loved frontman’s passing. This third collection has turned out to be the most ambitious yet, with much new material being added to fill to the original tracks.
Some of the restoration work has been slow and painstaking with online production meetings between recording sessions being done in isolation. A far cry from the original immediate live music reproduction on cassette tape the band used back in the 1980s. It is a new way collaborating with production meetings being an opportunity to enjoy and share these deeply personal sonic time capsules.
The release of a single “Hanging Judge” marks the anniversary of Brian’s death. Brian and Jim are knocking out an energetic antiphonal “A Cappella” vocal originally recorded in 1980, with addition guitars and drums being added by Vic and Jim in 2023.
